Group A qualification scenarios determine which of the four teams (Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Poland) advance. The top two teams secure direct entries, while the third-placed team requires at least 3-4 points and a positive goal difference to compete for the wildcard slots.

With four teams playing a round-robin schedule, a total of six matches are contested. Below are the key points to understand how teams are sorted in the points table.

FIFA Group Stage Tiebreaker Sequence

If teams finish level on points, the following criteria are applied in order to determine their final group positions:

  1. Goal Difference: Net goals in all group matches (goals scored minus goals conceded).
  2. Goals Scored: Total goals scored in all group matches.
  3. Head-to-head Points: Points earned in matches between the tied teams.
  4. Head-to-head Goal Difference: GD in matches between the tied teams.
  5. Head-to-head Goals Scored: Goals scored in matches between the tied teams.
  6. Fair Play Points: Card accumulation rating (yellow card is -1, red card is -3/-4).
  7. Drawing of Lots: Random selection by FIFA officials (last resort).
